Who is this for?
This workshop is for anyone who loves nature and wants to find a new way to enjoy it. I aim to improve people’s wellbeing by helping them find an activity that combines their curiosity, creativity and love for nature and its shapes.
This workshop is only suitable for people ages 18+ .
You don’t need to know how to draw, paint or even sketch. You only need to be willing to learn!
What to expect:
During this 2 hrs workshop I will start showing the participants examples of the things they can create. Then I will continue with the safety measures to then talk them step by step how to coat fabric suitable for cyanotypes. Then I will proceed to hand them an A5 piece of fabric previously coated with cyanotype chemistry/UV sensitive fabric.
I will ask you to create a composition by arranging leaves, flowers, feathers or any other objects you want to print onto the fabric, you can take your time, I won't rush you!
We will then proceed to put a clear glass sheet (all edges are protected) on top and hold it tight using binding clips. Depending on the weather, we will be using natural sunlight or a UV light bulb to expose the images. This can take from 3 to 15 minutes if using UV lamps. On a sunny day the exposure time can take up to 6 minutes.
Once the fabric turns into a light brown colour, we will wash our prints. Each participant will have access to a bowl with water to wash their prints. We will repeat this process in a larger scale when we print onto a calico bag that you will coat, design and print yourself with my guidance.
At the end we will hang our prints to dry. In case we don’t have time for the fabric to fully dry, I will give you plastic bags for you to take them home. You will also leave with a handout of information about cyanotypes.
