A bit about me!
karen about.jpg

Hi! I am a Visual Artist, Graphic Designer and Creative Producer. I primarily work with cyanotype and environmentally friendly practices. I have over 5 years of experience tutoring and leading creative sessions with people of all ages across England, Scotland and Peru (where I come from!). I am passionate about aiding connection between people and the arts. I also work with watercolours, block printing, inks, pottery and sometimes I apply techniques learned from the indigenous people of Peru like Kenè pattern making.

I have run projects & led events using public funding by the Arts Council of England, UK Community Foundations, Cambridgeshire Community Foundation, Cambridge Community Arts, The Know Your Neighbourhood Fund, Cambridge Recovery Service, Heritage Open Days England and local charities based in Fenland District, where I live.

I currently work as a Creative Producer for a project called Creative Fenland, please find out about my work as a producer HERE.

My history.

I was born in Lima, Peru and lived there most of my life. In 2019 I moved to England.

Since I was a child I really liked drawing and painting but also spending time in nature. I studied Graphic Design in Lima and that gave me the opportunity to learn about a wide variety of materials such as watercolour paints, Chinese ink and illustration techniques. This was also the time I started to get more interested in Photography.

I enjoy meeting people from different cultures. I have traveled through Europe, Britain, Morocco, South and North America where everything I saw and experienced has been a source of inspiration, particularly nature.

During lockdown I began to suffer from depression. This was one of the darkest moments of my life in England. I decided to return to Peru with the intention of improving my mental health and wellbeing. I took a trip to the Amazon jungle where one of my best friends provided the materials to do cyanotypes together. Not long after my negative thoughts were replaced by ideas and desires to experiment more with this photographic process that involves contact with nature, creativity and that opens many possibilities since it can be applied in different mediums.

I will be eternally grateful to my friend Julia, nature and blueprints for allowing me to develop my practice which I can share with you today.

My friend Julia is a German artist based in Lima, Peru. If you are interested to know about her work please join her on Instagram HERE.
