Who is this for?

This workshop is for anyone who has experimented with traditional cyanotype before and wants to have a deeper understanding about the chemistry behind it. It offers a chance to be playful in a fun setting: combining the chemistry with paint and household supplies learn to create interesting and unpredictable results!

This workshop is suitable for ages 18+ .

You don’t need to know how to draw, paint or even sketch!

What to expect:

During this workshop I will start showing the participants examples of the things they can create. I will follow with a health and safety talk to then introduce the chemicals. After that participants will have a chance to mix the chemistry (liquid form) who then will follow my instructions to correctly apply it to a piece of paper.

I will ask participants to create a composition by arranging leaves, flowers, feathers, animal skin or any other objects they want to print on the paper and add household supplies to create chemical reactions that will produce patterns and colour changes when exposed under UV light.

Depending on the weather, we will be using natural sunlight or a UV light bulb to expose the images. This can take from 4 minutes to up to 15 minutes if using natural light - weather dependant. We will proceed to wash our prints. Each participant will have access to a bowl with water to wash their prints.

While the paper is left to soak for a few minutes we will do it all again and create more prints!

You should be able to create at least 3 prints in different sizes. At the end we will hang our prints to dry, a process that will reveal the final results.
