See you in Summer 2024!
Cyanotypes, also called sun prints, are the result of an environmentally friendly photographic process.
A piece of paper is pre coated with harmless chemicals which reacts when exposed to UV light or sunlight.
This is a great activity to do with children during the sunny summer days! They can learn about the sun’s energy while also experiencing nature and making art.
What to expect:
During this 1 hour workshop I will start showing the children examples of the things they can create. Then I will continue with the safety measures to then hand them a pre coated A5 piece of paper. This part of the process is done indoors under shade.
Then I will ask the children to arrange the leaves, flowers, feathers or any other objects they want to print on the paper, they can take their time, I won't rush them!
I will proceed to put a clear glass sheet (all edges are protected and covered) on top and hold it tight using binding clips.
The next part takes place outside so please make sure you bring drinking water and wear sunscreen and hats on the day.
We will spend about 5 minutes outside letting the sun do it's magic or until the paper turns into a light brown colour. Then we will go back inside.
Back inside we will wash our prints. Each child will have a bowl with water to wash their prints. While the paper is left to soak for a few minutes we will do it all again and create more prints (2-3 pp.)!
At the end we will hang our prints outside to dry, it shouldn't take long in a hot sunny day but if they are still damp I will give you plastic pockets for you to take them home.
I'm DBS checked and I have a Public Liability Insurance.
